Story
Ovarian cancer is a serial killer. It claims the life of another woman every two hours. At the moment the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer lags behind those of other types of cancer.
I was inspired to take up this challenge after getting to know a strong and exceptional woman, a mum of two, who received a devastating diagnosis of this disease. Her optimism and fortitude truly are an inspiration. No woman should have to go through what she has.
I'm more used to running after my four kids, but the London Marathon offers a different kind of reward. Any money I raise will be donated to OCA (Ovarian Cancer Action) and invested in research and helping raise awareness that can lead to early detection.
OCA is driven by this simple belief - we’re defined in life by our actions, not our words. If we each take one small step, together we may be able to save lives.
Here is what your donation could fund:
£7 - acquisition of the nutrients required to grow the cancer cells that are necessary for OCA research.
£25 - support of a scientist who will use a powerful microscope to compare the appearance of cancer cells before and after chemotherapy – helping OCA to enhance the effectivity of chemotherapy treatment.
£50 - purchase of a chemical that halts the growth of cancer cells, helping OCA to create new drugs that will save women's lives.
£100 - support of scientists who study ways of killing cancer cells – helping OCA identify potential treatments for the future.
£1,000 - examination of a patient’s DNA – enabling OCA to identify genetic mutations associated with ovarian cancer and understand the causes of this disease.
By giving a little, you can help a lot.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this page and for any support you are able to offer.
