Story

In January 2020, I lost my nana, Valerie, after her long battle with MND.

Valerie Thain was the sweetest, most loving and selfless person that I have ever known. Spending time with her was a privilege and a joy and our entire family has been deeply affected by her loss. From doing my times tables with me at the bus stop to proof reading my uni application, spending every Wednesday with Val remained the highlight of my week from primary school until sixth form. She taught me so much, including what to read, how to cook, how to host the perfect Saturday night and how to shop, and I owe her so much. Valerie was such a strong and warm person, who always put other people first and did and said the right thing to make them feel safe and loved and I know she continues to inspire me and Aimee every day.

My sister and I are hoping to make her incredibly proud by completing The Great North Run on Sunday 11th September, as we fundraise for MNDA. The support they give families going through MND and the research they do is absolutely incredible so every penny I raise will support other families who have to go through the same thing.
