Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and supporting my London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
November 2019
On April 26th 2020, I am hoping to run the London Marathon raising money for the charity 'We Are All Making A Difference'. This is a Birmingham based charity who make a difference to the lives of others less fortunate, either by helping them and their families with assistance to their health, i.e. providing specialised cot beds or supporting them with a trip of a lifetime to Lapland or Disney.
As many of you will know, I like a challenge but 26.2 miles is completely out of my comfort zone both physically and mentally. I am therefore thrilled to have a place but daunted by this distance. The training schedule is already squeezing both my time and energy which will only become more difficult as the weather turns colder, the days become darker and the miles get longer. What's more, I've been advised to go teetotal from January 2020 until April - that's a challenge in itself! But I'm determined that in the year I turn 50, to create some wonderful opportunities for these children/adults and put a smile on their faces.
January 2021
As many of you know, the dream of running the London Marathon got postponed due to Covid. Having reached training run targets of 20miles during March 2020, I was gutted not to be able to put all the practice into action. My training did take a backseat although I did complete the virtual London Marathon in October by running a half and walking the other half marathon, not a bad time too. Now its time to focus on October 2021 and continue with the fundraising efforts.
September 2021
So the story continues.....unfortunately due to an achilles niggle which turned into an injury, I had to postpone my Marathon until April 2022. I really wanted to give myself the best chance of smashing my goal. However, April 2022 has now been put back to October 2022 by the organisers. By the time I get round to it, I will have been in training for 3 years - who'd have thought or known??!!! My determination continues and it gives me more chance to fundraise. Let's hope my knees keep going!
August 2022
With 7 weeks to go, marathon training is really underway! Since last year, I've kept my running ticking over but since May I've really upped my training with 4 runs per week - sprints, hills, recovery and of course the long run, coupled with 2 swim and strength sessions. All eyes are on October 2nd, getting to the start line and hopefully crossing the finish line on the Mall. After starting this journey nearly 3 years ago, some would have given up, but the impact the money will have for the charity is definitely keeping me focussed.
If you are able to spare a few pennies or more then I would be very grateful for your support. Knowing that you are behind me will aid my motivation for putting on my trainers and getting out for a run.
