Story
I am running 26.2 miles in the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon to support the MS Society.MS is an unpredictable and incurable condition that affects people's nervous systems. It can attack suddenly or progress steadily, bringing a range of symptoms which can include sight loss, incontinence, fatigue and mobility problems. No-one with MS can be sure when or how it will affect them next. The MS Society fund vital research into the causes of MS and possible treatments. They provide a helpline service, answering the calls of those looking for advice and support. They believe that together, we are strong enough to stop MS.
I have chosen this charity as I am personally inspired by my wonderful friend who, along with others, battles this condition daily. I, like so many people take many simple things for granted, running up the stairs to fetch something, jumping in the car to pop to the shops, walking my children to school, so I have decided to push myself out of my comfort zone, test my limits and put myself through my own personal battle whist raising awareness and funds towards research.
Why the London marathon? In June 2014 I completed my first 5K race (3 miles), with absolutely no intention of running anything else. Never once did it cross my mind to want to run a marathon. But I caught THE 'running bug' and over the last few years, 5k became 10K, 10 became 15K, then came a half marathon (a break for a baby), a second half, a 3rd one pending and now a new dream, a marathon, well I am half way there aren't I, after all whats another 13 miles on top! I'm also 40 next year, so what a year to be running one of the worlds most iconic marathons and another tick off the bucket list.
Thank you for reading my story, please get behind me, show your support, help me come to terms with my midlife crisis, and donate to a great cause, no matter how big or small, every penny counts.
Thank you xxx
