London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Late 2018 my mum was taken ill and within two weeks had major surgery to remove two tumours from her ovaries. Prior to this she was unaware that she actually had ovarian cancer, she was not aware of the signs and symptoms, which she had potentially being experiencing for years.
My mum was lucky and after her surgery she did not require chemo and has been given the all clear at every check up since. However, I know that not all women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are as lucky and due to the unawareness of the symptoms it is usually a cancer which is diagnosed at a later stage. This results in a low survival rate.
I am running the marathon and raising money for Ovarian Cancer Action for my mum and all the women who face ovarian cancer whether they are still with us today or not. If we can raise awareness of the symptoms so other women can catch it early and fund research into treatments and testing we can save women's lives.
