Story
I am walking, rolling or strolling at MS Walk 2022 to help stop MS.MS is an unpredictable, progressive and incurable autoimmune condition that affects people's nervous systems. It can attack suddenly or progress steadily, bringing a range of symptoms which can include sight loss, incontinence, fatigue and mobility problems. No-one with MS can be sure when or how it will affect them next.
Your immune system normally protects you by fighting off infection, but in MS our immune systems are attacking our nerves that protect our brain and spine by mistake. Your nerves control lots of different parts of your body. That’s why you can get MS symptoms in many parts of your body. It’s also why everyone’s MS is different. There are around 130,000 people in the UK living with MS.
I was diagnosed with highly active (aggressive) MS last year after many many years of painful symptoms. It got to the point where even walking a few steps I would be in unbearable pain. Leading to dealing with the following daily; whole body numbness, clouded vision, memory problems, speech problems, chronic fatigue, weakness, spasms, bowel and bladder incontinence, itchiness, muscle cramps, Pins and needles, balance problems, nerve pains, hearing problems and overall mobility issues.
Multiple sclerosis reminds me every single day that it’s attacking my spine and brain. Due to the damage on my spine I am left with mobility issues daily alongside the many other annoying symptoms that come with MS. It has been 15 months and I still do not have feeling back in my foot! I don’t ever expect to feel my foot again.
I still struggle massively with walking, I now own a few funky walking sticks to help me on my way which is why I really want to push myself and raise money for a charity that can improve treatment for MS and hopefully one day have a cure.
Your donations will go towards life-changing MS research. Thank you!
