Story

From the 10th of May, 2018, I will be taking part in the AKIM-Jerusalem Trek to raise funds and social awareness for the benefit of people with intellectual disabilities in Jerusalem. The physically challenging trek will be in the Golan Heights area just south of Mount Hermon, and will require me walking over difficult terrain for around 10 hours on each of the two days of the trek.

I have chosen to undertake this challenge in my barmitzvah year since Netanel, my brother, did the trek two years ago and highly recommended it to me. As he explained to me, the trek and raising money for Akim-Jerusalem is a great way to mark becoming a responsible member of the Jewish people, and in particular caring for others who are not as fortunate as we are.

I am asking you to help make this year’s trek a success by offering a contribution to AKIM-Jerusalem. I have pledged to pay the registration fee out of my barmitzvah money, so all your support will go directly to the organisation.  My goal is to raise 250 shekels for each hour I walk, in total 5,000 shekels (around 1,000 pounds).

I have also filmed a short video with Netanel to help encourage other children in their Bar/Bat Mitzvah year to join me on the trek. See the clip on this page:

If you wish to make your contribution in shekels you can do so on the following page:

Thank you for your support, and I’ll keep you updated!

Elisha.
