Story
This can happen to anyone, young and old - so I thought I'd do something to help raise funds to help with everything they do.
So I am dedicating my Channel swim to her.
Late July 2021, 5 ladies and I will relay swim across the English Channel from Dover to France. The swim will be a minimum distance of 23 miles, but it's usually further due to currents, and we will be wearing just swimming costumes (no wetsuits allowed!).
I have never been a strong swimmer (until now!).
Training started in 10C sea last October (remember - no wetsuits, just swimming costume!). A panic attack in the middle of the sea was not fun. And in a much warmer pool. Then, you know... Covid and lockdown.
I started training again in April 2021 in what has probably been the coldest start of the season on record. We are now mid-May and the sea is still very much at 12C and the lake at 14C. My most memorable swim was an outdoor one in the snow on 12th April. I now train outdoors once or twice a week and in a pool twice a week.
I hope to raise money for the Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre, based in London. Their research is used in the UK and across the world.
Any donations you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Elise xxx
