Story
The mountains are calling, and I must go and work on while I can, studying incessantly. - John Muir
For the Nevis Ensemble's 2021 Green Campaign and in honor of our orchestra's anthem (a certain tune by The Proclaimers), I'm walking 500 miles in 100 days to raise funds for the John Muir Trust.
Dedicated to the protection and repair of wild places, the John Muir Trust works with communities to conserve, manage, and care for wild land, helping to tackle issues such as the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. The lands that the Trust manages have been some of the Nevis Ensemble's best concert halls, so I'm honored to use this opportunity to give back to those natural places and their inhabitants (both human and animal)!
Any size gift can make a difference! For instance:
- $10 could buy 5 new native trees
- $50 could supply fuel for boats that take workers to clean remote beaches
- $75 could buy a camera trap to monitor wildlife activity
- $150 could pay for 10 meters of fencing to protect regenerating woodland
- $200 will replant 20 meters of heather moorland along an eroded path
- $600 could help pay for a seabird survey to track population changes
Will you help me reach my goal? Check back here for updates on my progress, stories and musings from my adventures, and maybe a few mini-performances...
