Story
Theo is my friend's little boy. He is an amazing boy. He was born 6 weeks early and has already overcome lots of challenges. Shortly after his 1st birthday Theo's parents (my friends Katherine and Magnus), were told that Theo had been born with cerebral palsy which affects his physical motor skills and means he can only walk short distances with a walking frame.
Theo's everyday challenges are big but so is his energy and determination for living an active life.
Living an active life is as important to Theo as it has been to me. Being involved in sport and activity has given me and my family so much enjoyment and I am sure it is a similar story for many of you reading this. Having only ever run a few miles I have decided to challenge myself with this race to raise money for Theo.
Theo's best chance of independent walking is an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which will need to be followed up by years of physiotherapy. SDR involves spinal surgery which will reduce the tightness (spasticity) in Theo's legs. The surgery has other benefits in that it will improve Theo's balance and the control he has over his movement. The reduction in muscle tightness will also reduce the risk of Theo needing major surgery on his hips and knees as he gets older.
Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Our fundraising is through a registered charity, Caudwell Children, which provides support services, treatment and therapies for disabled children and their families across the UK. Your donation will be held by Caudwell Children, a registered charity, and funds will only be released in connection with Theo's SDR and post-op rehabilitation. A proportion of your donation will also go towards helping other disabled children helped by Caudwell Children. If gift aid can be added to your donation, the amount available for Theo's SDR will be more than the cost of your donation. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
