Story
This challenge began in January, when I was having coffee with two very dear friends of mine. One friend's Dad died at Christmas. My Dad (Ray) died 18 months ago. My other friend lost her Dad a few years ago. We were chatting over coffee, when I mentioned the idea of walking to raise money for Charity.
I know many people who have lost someone close to them. Whenever those people had contact with Marie Curie, they have found comfort from the care that they and their loved one received.
I can't even remember the name of the Marie Curie nurse who was with me when Ray died. What I do remember is her calm, caring, empathic response to him. She was respectful and treated him with dignity. If he had been conscious he would have flirted outrageously with her!! I would like to be able to say thank you to her and the other Marie Curie nurses who were with us in the last few days of Ray's life.
And so the challenge...... to raise money for this vitally important charity. It is an organisation that provides such an outstanding service to so many people.
"If you or someone you’re close to has a terminal illness, we’re here to support you. There are a range of ways we can help you, from clear, useful information about living with a terminal illness to expert nursing care in your home." (Marie Curie website)
