Story
Hi y'all. My name is Eliamaria, Elia for short. I'm a 28 going on 29 year old who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 8. I've grown up seeing changes in medicine, technology, and so much more, but not much in educating those around us and making supplies easier to obtain to live our live.
For those who don't know, as a Type 1 Diabetic, we rely on insulin to live. Unfortunately our pancreas went on vacation and never came back, so we have to take insulin to make up for it not being able to produce it for us. Insulin isn't cheap, in fact, it's far from it. Even with insurance, it costs hundreds to make sure you have it, and without it, it could mean death in hours.
The fact that insulin is life or death, but a vial costs as much as a Nintendo Switch, is a bit ridiculous.
I found T1International about a year ago and was so happy and relieved to find a group that not only had diabetics on their team who know what it's like, but they work to accomodate to communities who speak Spanish. Spanish-speaking communities are very hard to reach for help and support in the diabetic community and every little bit can help the program grow to help not just grow for that community, but for others as well. On top of all that, they don't take money from big pharma which was a HUGE breath of fresh air for me.
Help me raise money so we can help T1International so that young diabetics can group up in communities who are more aware an informed of our autoimmune disease and can help us to make it a better for everyone.
