Story
I am turning 40 at the end of August and decided to raise money for Sepsis Research (FEAT). I will be be doing 40mins of exercise for 40 days for my 40th. Ok I know it might not seem like the biggest of challenges BUT I am a very busy mum of two young girls, have a demanding job in TV production and currently in the midst of a massive house renovation! So needless to say I have very little time to myself and carving out 40 minutes of exercise a day will certainly be a challenge for me. This will start on the 27th of July.
My aim is to dedicate 40mins a day to a form of exercise - such as running or walking . I don’t track my steps on aps or watches so I will be making the conscious effort to achieve the 40mins each day without technology. Getting up from my desk or couch and actually just moving! I will also be doing a raffle with prizes if anyone wants to buy tickets (£5 for 5). More details to follow.
The reason I have chosen Sepsis Research (FEAT), a Glasgow charity, is because in 2020 I came very close losing my life to septic shock. I developed a rare liver abscess alongside other complications and spent more than two weeks in hospital and a number of months recovering. Luckily I am now well with no lasting damage but I will be eternally grateful to the NHS staff who saved my life. I know not everyone who has Sepsis is as lucky so I would like help support research into this hidden killer and raise awareness about the life threatening condition.
Sepsis is a medical emergency and thousands of lives a year could be saved in the UK through prompt diagnosis and treatment. Five people in the UK die every hour from sepsis. Sepsis accounts for around 50,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast cancer & bowel cancer put together. More information can be found here;
