Story
The Royal Half Parks Marathon, in October will be the second POWER fundraiser for SBF, this year, following on from the Ride in the Sky - bikes and bananas 450ft in the air - at Brighton's i360, in May.
I'm hugely inspired by the work of SBF because I know first-hand the power of movement, and community. A big part of my story is my recovery from anorexia, over 20 years ago. I thought my breakthrough came when I joined my local gym, and my goal became 'strong not skinny'. Yet it was so much more than that; it was connection and community. I want to support SBF to create even more accessible, inspiring, empowering, energetic spaces for girls to find their bunch, and discover the joy of living healthy, nourishing, active lives.
You might be thinking, you ride a bike. I do! Running the RPHM will be a real challenge for me.
It was an honour to be asked to run as part of Team Sweaty Betty, and I couldn’t imagine training for it, or running it, without my incredible friend, Becky. Becks is the original runner! We met on Zoom, during lockdown, when she was running ‘riding’ POWER Online. She exchanged running, for riding a bike - to ride around the Isle of Wight in celebration of my Dad, raising money for prostate cancer - and now it’s my turn to jump off my bike, and give running a whirl. Excited, and inspired!
Thank you for choosing to fundraise for the Sweaty Betty Foundation. Since launching the Foundation in 2021, we've helped thousands of girls to fall in love with being active. We've spoken directly with girls to understand the barriers to being active, and with the help of girls voices, we're on a mission to break those barriers down, one by one. So far, we've been able to donate thousands of sports bras to girls across the UK, fund several community groups in areas such as Leeds, Manchester and London, and worked with schools to deliver educational workshops to girls. We've got lots more to do, and with the funds you raise we will be able to inspire thousands more girls to find activities they'll love.
