Story
As many of you know Elaine past away on 28 October 2020 having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer three years earlier, not long before she retired from the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research where she had worked as a research scientist for over 30 years. Her last 9 months were particularly difficult for her, as in January 2020 a secondary inoperable tumour was discovered in her brain. However during periods of further treatment and Covid lockdowns she continued to outwardly show a great strength of spirit, despite privately worrying out the outcome.
Over the last year I, her family and friends have all missed her greatly, her love of live, her always friendly and smiling face brought happiness to everyone she met.
Since she passed away I have reflected on the many female ex-colleagues - both of mine and Elaines, as well as family and friends that have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and the impact on their families.
The support given by, and the work undertaken by Breast Cancer Now has so many positive benefits to all affected and on the 22 Oct I shall proudly Wear It Pink and have challenged myself to walk from our home in Milton Of Campsie to the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, where Elaine received her treatment from a truly dedicated team, then on past the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research where some of Elaines ex-colleagues continue to undertake valuable research, partially funded by Breast Cancer Now, into finding new treatments to eradicate this cancer that affects so many, then back home. Coincidentally the route is approximately 22 miles.
All donations are gratefully received and will help Breast Cancer Now reach their aim to eradicate this disease.
