Story
Dorset Nightstop (Action for Children) provides safe, secure emergency accommodation for young people aged 16-25, in Dorset, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
This service receives no statutory funding and relies entirely on donations. The 16-25 year age group has been particularly affected by the pandemic; the impact on their job opportunities and strain on family finances has led to an increase in family breakdowns. We are raising money for this service because we both feel passionate about supporting young people and keeping them safe.
Nightstop aims to keep a young person in a safe and friendly home environment, while allowing agencies to look at long-term solutions to their homelessness.
A young person who use the Nightstop service, will be welcomed into the home of a fully trained volunteer host who provides:
- a safe and secure bed for the night in their own room
- an evening meal and breakfast
- washing facilities
- a listening ear
- breathing space to allow a young person to get any support they need and move towards finding more permanent accommodation
One Nightstop service user said: “They treated me very well and they were very welcoming. I was given food and refreshments and my clothes were washed.”
