As you can see I plan to run a half marathon for Cancer Research U.K, thats 13.1 miles for those of you who don't know.  I've been involved with CRUK for over 10 years as my mother was a founder member of our local committee 21 years ago.  Together we are always trying to come up with different ways to raise money for our charity.  I always said I'd like to run a marathon by the time I was 40 and now time has caught up with me as I'm the big 4-0 this year.  Last year I talked a few of my gym buddies into doing a relay in the Belfast marathon in May.  Trouble was i couldn't run to the end of the road without an oxygen mask so I had my work cut out for me, I had to run 7.1 miles!  I started out walking/running for a couple of miles and gradually built up my distance but it was really tough.  I went out in all weathers, hail, rain or snow.  We did the race in May in 4 hours 19 mins and raised over a grand. I was ecstatic.

This year I face a fresh challenge as I have nearly double the distance to run. So far I can still only manage 8 miles, but I'm determined to do my best, even if it kills me.  Please don't let me run in vain.  Even a small donation will make a difference as it soon all adds up. We all know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease and I'm sure like me, you would like to see a day when cancer is a thing of the past.  To find a cure we need the skill of the dedicated doctors, nurses and scientists and their work requires a lot of money for them to continue their life-saving work.  As a nurse I see first hand what this disease can do, not only to those afflicted with cancer, but also their families and friends.  Together we can beat cancer.
