We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Last year I set myself a charity challenge to climb Northern Ireland’s highest peak, the Slieve Donard, for 30 consecutive days. With the help & generosity of friends, family & strangers I managed to raise £3,358.14 for Aware.ie

This years challenge has been inspired by last years. I aim to summit Irelands county high points, consecutively. We have 32 counties but some share these high points leaving me with 26. I have decided to count Leitrim & Sligo as separate & I plan on starting & finishing with the Slieve Donard so will therefor have 28 peaks to climb. Some of the peaks are considerably small so any less than 500m will be done in a 10kg weighted vest to make it a little more challenging.

I am aware that people have covered the 26 CHPs over the space of time, a few months, year(s) but not 26 consecutive days.

I am really looking forward to taking on this charity challenge, it is an exciting adventure for me, a chance to explore our beautiful Island, meet new people, as well as an amazing opportunity to raise funds & awareness along the way.

I have already been overwhelmed with peoples generosity in allowing me to take on this challenge; Friends & especially those from the air bnb community who don’t even know me & are willing to put me up a night or 2 along my way; I have an amazing bunch of girls who work with me who will cover me while I take almost 3 weeks out of my busy work schedule whilst on the road on & not to mention my house sitter who is going to look after my fur babies.

Air bnb hosts to thank;

If you think you can help out & gather a group of walkers to join me during the month of ‘walktober’ (which I have renamed) at any of the points please get in touch! A minimum donation of £5 on the day to the cause either via JG or the Charity sponsor form that will be available

If you are unable to physically support me with the challenge your financial support alone via this Just giving page for the Alzheimer's Society would be MOST welcoming - Last year I had no bench mark at all and set myself a modist target of £300 - I would LOVE to try raise as much as I did last year so I will set an optimistic, minimum target of £1000 - I know I can smash it with your help :)

This years chosen charity is the Alzheimer's Society

Dementia can happen to anyone and there's currently no cure. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to 1 million by 2021.

Alzheimer's Society are the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, here for anyone affected by any form of dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
They provide information and practical and emotional support to help people live well with dementia, and invest in world-class research with the ultimate goal of defeating it.

They also campaign to improve public understanding of dementia and the devastating impact it can have, and make sure it's taken seriously and acted on by our governments.

They provide information and support, fund medical and social research, and campaign for better quality of life for people with dementia and greater understanding of the condition.

They are dedicated to defeating dementia through pioneering research, and fund an innovative programme of research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia.

By 2017, they aim to spend at least £10 million a year on new research projects that will make a real difference to people's lives.

So, i’m just doing my little bit to help this cause for various reasons.

I will keep you all up to date with events via this page & my social media pages
