Story
Hi, thanks for visiting our fundraising page!
We are a group of four; Amelia, Deepa, Jo, and Laura. We have decided to trek the last 100km of pilgrim route, El Camino de Santiago! Crazy, we know... But, we hold this charity close to our hearts.
- Dates: Tuesday 11th April - Sunday 16th April 2023
- Route: Sarria -> Santiago
- Distance: 113km / 70.2 miles
Amelia: My mum was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer on 15th December 2022. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy with the intention of lumpectomy surgery at the end of her treatment. As her sole carer throughout this time, I was worried about leaving mum for a whole week in the midst of her treatment. But, upon speaking to mum, she insisted that it was my destiny to do this and reassured me that she would be well taken care of in my brief absence! It's going to be an arduous journey for her (el Camino is EASY in comparison!), but with the incredible support of the NHS, Macmillan, Together Against Cancer, and all of our amazing family, friends and colleagues... we can fight this, together!
Deepa: I have talked about walking the Camino de Santiago with Jo for many years. We committed to doing this fund-raising trek in memory of our dear, superfun and inspiring friend, Darshna Naker who was lovingly supported by Together Against Cancer. I have been training in preparation for this with the support of my lovely friends. The care Together Against Cancer provide to their clients and their families is physically and spiritually healing and that's why I want to support them.
Jo: I have always wanted to walk the Camino de Santiago and when Deepa asked me to do it with her, I jumped at the chance. We have both decided to dedicate this walk to our lovely friend Darshna. Together Against Cancer was a charity close to her heart, which she supported herself through fundraising and who, in turn, supported her so wonderfully. It is nice to think that our fundraising will go a small way to support others too. I have been tap dancing and bouncing my way back to fitness (yes I have a mini trampoline!) and I am working on building up my walking miles in preparation. I know it won’t be easy for me but I am ready to take on the challenge, especially as we will be walking for such a good cause.
To be continued...
