Story
My gran was a lovely, caring woman who never failed to make me smile and she thought the world of her family. Always baking cakes, sowing and knitting, when I visited her and my papa it never failed to cheer me up.
When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2013, we were all absolutely devastated.
In her last few weeks of life, I didn't get to visit my gran, through her own wishes of wanting me to preserve my memory of her as a healthy, happy and caring gran, and not a victim of cancer.
Without my gran, I could never have gotten to my Outward Bound course in the summer of 2014, where I made some amazing memories, met some wonderful people and had an absolutely lifechanging experience. Without my gran, I could never have gotten to visit Belgium in October, leaving the UK for the first time, learning the sacrifices given by the soldiers of the World Wars.
Running a 10k is something I had been wanting to do for a while, and remembering how Marie Curie nurses had visited my gran every night, staying til the next morning, caring for her and my papa and just making everything more comfortable for them overall, I decided I wanted to do a sponsored run for them, both in memory of my gran, and to help donate to their cause.
I know she would have been proud of me.
