Fundraising for Meningitis Now
My granddaughter, Eira Ann Pomeroy, died of pneumococcal meningitis in February 2013. She was a completely healthy, vivacious, affectionate child who was full of life and spirit. In the space of less than five days she had her second birthday, was christened, and died. The suddenness and loss has been quite numbing. She was such a wonderful girl, who sprinkled happiness to all those around her. It was such a joy to have been with her during the short two years she lived.
I will be running in the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 6 to raise funds for The Meningitis Trust who work hard to help families who are affected by meningitis and also support research into finding means of prevention. Currently, the mechanisms of how the disease progresses is not fully understood .
I am not a runner, and have never entered any kind of running competition before, so after my decision to take part in early August, it has been hard work training, but I intend to finish the run whatever it takes.
