Story
Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page.
We did it!! Nearly 300 km from Stansted on Friday to Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon while the rest of you were being idle over August Bank Holiday. And a great trip it was too.
JJ and I have done that ride before, in 2003, and the hills in Essex have not got any easier. However the route through Holland was different this time, much prettier and more interesting with stops at lovely places like 17th century De Rijn and the Schermer windmills (a world heritage site). I'd persuaded many people that it was not too difficult, so we had lots of riders new to the idea, all of whom enjoyed themselves hugely, and are likely to sign up for more. You can do the same at www.mariecurie.org.uk - there are some terrific destinations in 2010.
I was particularly touched by one young man who said to me at the end, "I'm 37 years old and this is the first time I've done anything for anybody other than myself." He's had a life-changing experience, as had many of the 50 riders, who between them raised over £80,000 for Marie Curie.
Never mind the recession; it does not stop people getting cancer. Indeed this wonderful charity managed to expand their nursing services for those who choose to die at home, and are planning to do more research into what works (and what doesn't) in palliative and end-of-life care.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now! AND THANK YOU!!! Edwina x x
