Story

On behalf of the Countryside Alliance I am delighted to be riding the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 Mile cycle event in support of their supported charities Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland (CfR) & Fishing 4 Schools.

A little bit about Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland (CfR)

CfR is an inspirational programme for women who have, or have had, breast cancer. CfR takes ladies who have been profoundly affected by breast cancer away on short residential retreats at idyllic locations where counselling and medical support are combined with tuition in the beautiful sport of fly fishing.

The Countryside Alliance Foundation runs the project and the mission is simple: fun, support and moving forward.

Casting for Recovery provides the chance for women whose lives have been turned upside down by breast cancer to gather on a retreat in a natural setting and learn the sport of fly fishing.

Casting for Recovery is the brainchild of a breast cancer reconstructive surgeon and a professional fly fisher. It is known that the action of casting is medically proven to help heal women who have had a mastectomy. Physiotherapy exercises for postoperative patients mimic the action of casting.

About the charity

Many children and young people know little about the countryside and rural way of life. Its programme of educational initiatives will introduce them, and their teachers, to the beauty, importance and diversity of our rural heritage, inspiring them to become passionate about its future and protect it for future generations.
