Story
One in four of us will experience some kind of mental health problem each year and I’ve seen my friends struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, the pressures of teenage life and making the right choices for our future. Sadly, I’ve also witnessed the effects of the suicides of fellow students due to mental health, and the attempt by another. There are times when talking to family can be difficult, especially for young people, I know this as I have suffered from self-harm in the past.
So, I want to raise money for Mind to ensure they can always offer the support to those who need it. Just £8 could offer a lifeline to someone in desperate need of support by letting the Mind infoline team answer their call.
Despite coming from a cycling family living in France, I have never done a large organised event like this one before, and I will not be cycling with anybody I know. I am looking forward to the challenge, and I must also remember to cycle on the wrong side of the road in London. It will be nice to know that my efforts will help someone feel less alone and more supported. Mental illness can be a very dark and lonely place.
