This site is dedicated to documenting the travels of Jo. I have decided to spend the summer of 2012 travelling across Canada on a bike to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The actual start date is April 12th at White Rock in British Columbia. I plan to finish 31st July at Halifax, Nova Scotia approx. 8046 Km by the time I have detoured to have a beer with my friends and family on route!

Who am I - yes well I’d like to say blonde, blue eyed and gorgeously fit. Sorry no. I’m actually fat and forty nine and three quarters - but getting fitter. No I’m not going through a Mid-Life Crisis - I’m going through a Not Mid- Life Indulgence. I say indulgence because when I asked my husband if he thought I could possibly bike the coast to coast(uk) or maybe the Danube he laughed and said well you’ve always wanted to live in Canada why don’t you bike their coast to coast! There you go the seed was planted

This all started last April when after feeling unwell I was examined by my doctor and to my horror a large lump was detected in my breast. I was one of those ones fortunate enough to have the good news that I did not have breast cancer. The initial shock hit me like a sledge hammer. Sadly soon after my two close friends found that they had different types cancer within weeks of each other. They have individual ways in which they deal with their illnesses. All I can offer is Love and by doing this challenge help Cancer Research UK find ways to rid our world of this terrible disease.

So after much planning and some training. Yes training! Friends have recognised that large bottomed cyclist wearing lycra ( yes I am hoping to spend the next few years re- designing cycling shorts and helmets actually attractive enough to wear) heading over the Wolds this winter through - rain and snow grabbing a days training in-between my work schedule. Here I am nearly ready to go.

So keep tuned as we get this site up and riding - and post it from the occasional internet cafés. My kids Charlotte and James - My Godsons -Harry, Andy, Jonathon and William will all help to keep you in touch in-between those cafes. I will introduce them as we go along.
