Story
The Economics Society of University of Edinburgh is supporting its community by helping Edinburgh Women's Aid (EWA), a local charity that has been providing support for women and children in Edinburgh affected by domestic abuse for 47 years. Just in the year 2019-20, EWA supported 1834 women and 154 children.
Domestic abuse is like a shadow pandemic, crawling in our society. Women and children are its most affected victims. It is sometimes difficult to identify abuse, especially for the young people like students, who are experiencing it. Here in Edinburgh, to tackle these problems, EWA provides a range of crisis, therapeutic and prevention services.
The current pandemic and the requirement to isolate within households puts young women and children in increasing danger of domestic abuse whilst enforcing isolation from friends, family and support networks. Women and children whose lives are affected need our help now more than ever. Christmas as a joyful holiday is coming amid the shadows to bring in light to everyone’s life. We are asking for donations to both ensure that women and children supported by EWA have a brighter Christmas this year and also to provide food and other essentials over the coming months.
Any amount of donation will be meaningful help to the women and children in our community seeking support and refuge at EWA. Thank you for your donation!
