PS. There is a small update on the event which took place on Saturday 14th June at the bottom of this page.

My wife Isabel was diagnosed with terminal melanoma in her head in June 2013. As many of you reading this who have been affected by this horrible disease either directly or with a family member, friend or colleague will know, the impact of this has been devastating firstly for my wife but also for all our family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Isabel like many, many other people who work to help others is a fantastic Lady and again like many other people including some of you who may be reading this short story has given a very large part of her working life to help and look after many people in various communities for the last twenty years or so in her job. It is entirely possible that many of you reading this may have been helped by Isabel or know of a family member who has whilst she was carrying out her job. Isabel always fulfilled her role with a great deal of respect, dignity and of course when required a little humour. Sometimes Isabel may have been the only person that some people saw in any given day.

This disease does not discriminate and as we all know one in three of us will be affected in one way or another. As a family and again like most if not all of you who are reading this story have always supported various cancer charities in addition to others ie, The British Heart Foundation, and we still do. We are sure that just like everyone else we hope that we will never need to use their expertise but well, we have done and still do. The staff at both The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and the Macmillan team have all been brilliant to both Isabel and our family and all of us wish to do a little more to help try and find a cure for this disease. This is just a very small effort on our part to try and give a little more to those who have given their all to help us. In addition to my bungee jump, our sons and other family members and friends will be walking The West Highland Way, good luck with that too

It is of course very difficult to write this short story without becoming emotional and to try and communicate to you how we all feel and nor would we really want to but here it is. Isabel did nothing to deserve this ******* disease, but then nobody ever does.

We realise and appreciate that we are all asked often to give a little when we can but once again here we are, all we are asking is for you to give a little towards helping those who help US ALL and need all of our support as much as ever.

Everyone involved with trying to beat this disease are fantastic, they are all Stars In Our Eyes and the Macmillan team are angels here on earth, they like the others are true hero's.

May I/We/ Our Family please also take this opportunity on behalf of Isabel and all of us to say a very sincere and special thank you to all our family, friends and colleagues. Also a special thank you to my friends and colleagues and to the bosses of the company that I work for Econosto UK (A part of the Eriks Group) all of whom have been brilliant in their support of both myself and our family.

I would like to also say a huge thank you to my sons, my daughter in law, my granddaughter and my mates (you know who you are), all of whom have been fantastic - I really do love and thank you all very much.

Lastly but certainly not least on behalf of The Macmillan Cancer Support and all of us...A huge thank you to all of you who have supported us all through your fantastic donations and words of encouragement and support

In a way, this started out in our minds as being for Isabel and of course initially she was our driving force however, the truth is that this is for all of us. All of our efforts, yours, mine, everyone and everything we all do is for all of us. Therefore a good slogan should/ will be:

For YOU - For US - For EVERYONE

Thank You.

Just a small update to all. The bungee jump went very well I am delighted to say, shhh dont tell anyone but I actually quite enjoyed it lol. It is also fair to say that I/We were very humbled by the numbers of family, friends and colleagues who came along to support the event and myself and offer some much needed encouragement, some from far away indeed, again thanks to all.More importantly thanks to all of you we have raised a lot of money for the MacMillans Cancer Support so again a massive thank you. On another sadder note, recently a friend of ours lost his Dad to another horrible illness in Dimentia and just in case you are reading this,  all of our thoughts are with you.  This poor man and his family suffered through this disease for several years yet our friend still found time to support and sponsor for this event. This is another disease that we are hearing more and more about and is forecast to affect more of us. Perhaps it is time we tried to help here too, watch this space.
