Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2 years ago I was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer , It was discovered purely by chance , I am one of the lucky ones because this is the type of Cancer that is often discovered too late . I was lucky because within the space of 6 months I had pre Chemo treatment, a Total Gastrectomy and then Post Chemo Treatment , I was lucky because if that happened today in this time of Covid 19 my treatment would have been postponed.
It has taken me a while to get used to my life without a stomach but I am getting there , I have have to eat and drink in moderation . Big meals and a few pints are replaced with small portions and the occasion half of Guinness.
This year I had planned to attempt the Camino de Santiago .The Pandemic has put all of that on the back burner for a year , but then I realised I could still do this in my back garden and inside my factory. I will walk the 280km over the next 28 days , commencing 13th of April . That is approx 15000 steps per day on the fit bit. Next year for real .
I want to raise some money for the NHS and in particular the Oesophagoose campaign to increase awareness of Gastric Cancer ,the work of Ward 19 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle and to raise the profile for all of those people who are waiting for treatment and diagnosis . Some of those people will become the hidden statistics of this terrible situation we are all facing .
I am one of the lucky ones , but so are some of you .
Use this down time well , keep fit and keep safe
we all need to take each day as it comes .
Thank you for taking the time to read this .
