On the 5th June 2022 I am taking part in the Trans America Bike Race. A 4,200 mile ultra-distance cycle race that crosses the American continent from West to East, Oregon to Virginia. The unsupported race will take us across 10 different States and dramatic changing landscapes. 

I am riding to raise money for the British Heart Foundation*, in memory of my good friend Ian Cummins. My best adventures were spent with Ian, caving in Yorkshire, Climbing in the Lake District or riding our bikes over the Pennines. Ian was an amazing climber & caver, an accomplished research scientist and devoted to his family, who he spoke of so proudly. I will treasure the great adventures we shared. As I prepare my kit and set out on this epic challenge I will be thinking of you. 

The BHF fund scientific research into the causes and treatments of heart conditions and heart disease. They are also working to identify genetic markers so that heart disease can be identified early and treated. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK. 

* 20% of all monies raised will be matched and donated to the Cave Rescue Organisation. A cause that meant a lot to Ian.
