Story
This year I am taking part in the London Classics, which consists of the London Marathon, Ride London and Swim Serpentine. At time of writing, I have never run 26.2 miles, cycled 100 miles or swum 2 miles so I better get training! Running the London Marathon has been something I have always wanted to do and so I’m so pleased that I finally get the chance after 10+ unsuccessful applications. I’m targeting 3.5 hours which is perhaps a little ambitious but here’s hoping willpower and a good pair of running shoes can get me across the line!
I am fundraising for Born Free, a charity that protects threatened species and their natural habitats, campaigning to keep them where they belong – in the wild. For anyone that has ever had the pleasure of going on safari, it is clear just how few leopards, cheetahs or rhinos there are and so protecting these officially vulnerable and near extinct animals couldn’t be more urgent. Protecting and rescuing threatened animals from captivity, funding sanctuaries to treat them and lobbying governments against trophy hunting and illegal trade of exotic pets are some of the key things that Born Free does to address the human-made issues that threaten the survival of these amazing animals.

Did you know that 90% of wild lions have been lost in the last century? Large cats and other mammals continue to be captured in the wild and sold as pets, or exploited in captivity for profit, often in horrific conditions. Up to 86% of forests in elephant ranges have declined in the last three generations, leaving forest African Elephants critically endangered. Over 96% of tigers have been lost in the last 100 years. Devastating. But I'm doing something about it! And you can help me by donating to my fundraising page today! Anything you can give really will help wildlife. And don't forget to add Giftaid if you are a tax payer - this comes at no cost to you and helps Born Free receive even more money!
