Story
The Children’s Eco Village is a unique project for orphans in Tanzania which was set up by Islamic Help. Located approx. 30 mins from the capital Dares Salaam, the natural surroundings are aimed at nurturing the physical, mental, social and spiritual growth and well being of these children. The children are taught to live sustainably and in harmony with the natural environment. You can learn more about this project by visiting our website.
In the last few years, due to climate change, the seasonal rain has been very unpredictable and has been much stronger than usual. On the night of 19th April, due to unusually high winds and heavy rain, the Children’s Eco Village suffered damage to its buildings with significant damage being caused to the village mosque (pictures above). The Mosque is a unique feature in the region, it is an eco mosque with many environmental features making it relatively easy to maintain and a zero carbon footprint. It serves the spiritual needs of the orphans children at the village, the staff and the local surrounding villages.
We have launched a fundraising campaign for £5000 so we can repair the roof structure, the ceiling, repainting of the mosque and new carpet and smaller repairs to the other buildings.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When you pass by the meadows of Paradise, then graze as you like.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what are the meadows of Paradise?” The Prophet said, “The mosques.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is its grazing?” The Prophet said, “To declare the glory of Allah, the praise of Allah, the greatness of Allah, and that there is no God but Allah.” - Tirmidhi
