My JanYOUary Challenge for St Oswald's Hospice, 1 January 2021
Start the year your way by completing a personal challenge that suits you, as well making a difference to your local charitable hospice. What will YOU choose to do to kick off 2021?

Story

I'm starting JanYOUary in style, by challenging myself and supporting local adults and children with life-limiting conditions.

I have decided to take on a few things throughout January, to kick start the month in the right way, this will consist of the following

 * I'm doing a daily Burpee challenge, each day of the month I'll do that many burpees, concluding with 31 on the 31st do 31 Burpees

* I'll be leading weekly virtual workout style classes for a small number of people, as it's something out of my comfort zone

* I've given up Alcohol - DRYJAN

And lastly, I'm co-ordinating a virtual 5k Baton Relay Run on the 31st January and I'd love you to be part. I'm aiming to get 32 people running (or walking) and covering the distance of the St Oswald's way walk - 97 miles in total.

  • It's £5.00 to join in, Donate directly to my page
  • Join the Facebook group "Lockdown 3point0 V5k Baton Relay" & once joined please comment to say "DONATED£5" & I'll direct you to the official sign up link for the event.
  • Each runner will be assigned a group & your team captain will add you into a What's APP group for the day.
  • The event will take places on Sunday 31st Jan 8am - 3pm, and you will be given a 30min window for when you will go out for your run, but you will only go, once the runner before has "passed" the virtual baton to you.  Your team captain will keep you right on the day. :)

Sign up closes on Wednesday 27th Jan in order to allocate teams. The first team back to complete all their 5k Relay's & successfully pass the baton will win a prize!

It'll take 32 people covering a 5k distance for us to achieve the 97 miles that is St Oswald's Way, if we can double the number of people involved I'd love to see how many times around the 97mile course we can do in just one day!

My aim is to raise as much money as possible during this pandemic for St Oswald's Hospice, where I work as a fundraiser on the events team.  Seeing most of our physical events cut this last 10months has been heart breaking in the work that I do, for the patients & families who use our services, as income streams that we'd anticipated to soar this year just simply have not, as the C-19 crisis hit.

I'm so grateful for you all to get involved in this one day challenge/event to see how it might work out, and if you can share it on the day to your friends and family, even better.  I'm gutted to have not been able to have physical events that our keen and loyal supporters would normally get involved in, So I'm trying to do my bit in this new world and maybe just maybe, there's still a way we can try to connect & recreate some of the buzz that we'd get from physically being together on an event like this, in otherwise a normal world.

Thank you

Emily
