Story
Thanks for visiting our "Skydive for Eathan" fundraising page.
Family and Friends listed below -
have joined together to raise money for Friends of PICU at Southampton General Hospital. Registered Charity Number 1116880
From the Friends and Family of Eathan Roberts.
We don't have a target figure, because we hope that the "SKY" will be the limit as a result of our SKYDIVE Most, if not ALL of us doing this skydive have NEVER done anything quite as scary as this. But for our little fella on his journey, we are willing to do this and hope to be as "Brave" as he was. We love you baby and would walk to the end of this earth for you.
Your donation can really help us to help others in need at what can only be described as a very traumatic time in any families life. To have a very sick child, that is dependant on all those around him/her in a medical emergency, can only be described as one of the most difficult times a family can experience. It's a time when we as parents or grandparents don't have the answers and we also find ourselves "dependant" on medical services.
Our time within the unit in July with Eathan was only for a few day's, but the assistance, care and support from the unit was "invaluable" and gave us "all" the time to accept what turned out to be the loss of our very precious little boy. Eathan went on to "Give" even more, by donating his organs to others, this 23 month old baby gave ALL that he could right up to the end and this is why, his family and friends want to help Eathan continue to give and help others in their time of need. There is another family out there "right now" going through a tragic time, so if we can help to make their difficult time a little easier, then that is what we would like to do.
Please help Eathan on his Journey to helping others....
Who are Friends of PICU?
Friends of PICU is a registered charity that was set up in 2006 by nursing staff on the unit and the parents of children who have been cared for on PICU. The charity is run by the Trustees who are helped by volunteers.
Friends of PICU aim to support the children and their families by providing vital equipment and services that are not normally provided by the statutory authorities. The charity maintains the family accommodation on the unit which has recently undergone a major refurbishment program.
The charity is also funding a psychologist for a period of 3 years to provide help to children and their families. The psychologist provides support for patients, families and staff on the Unit. Many people find that the experience of time on PICU can be traumatic. Our psychologist can help people to discuss their feelings and help them to reconcile these feelings.
What do we spend our funds on?
We buy equipment that the PICU needs to maintain the high standards of care that exist – these are some of our recent purchases:
Oxygen Head boxes (maintains required oxygen levels for babies)
Bedside trolleys
Sofa for waiting room
Biliblanket (for the treatment of neonatal jaundice)
Digital camera and printer for the Bereavement team.
Electronic games for the older children
Apnoea Alarms (to detect breathing in babies)
Breast pumps
Sonisite Machine (to detect blood vessels)
SIPAP (for non-invasive ventilation of babies)
Bereavement memory boxes
Comfy chairs for parents
Friends of PICU also provide every child on PICU with an Elephant Cuddly Toy.
Equipment purchases are only half of the picture. Whilst it is true that the majority of our funds go towards buying the life-saving equipment that is not provided by the statutory authorities, we go a lot further than this. We buy arts and crafts items for the children, socks to keep small feet (and hands) warm and portable DVD players for the older children.
All of our activities and purchases depend on the generosity and fundraising of our friends and supporters, so please donate now!
