"Out of chaos comes creativity"
The creation of this blanket has been inspired by two different journeys.
My inspiration came from my daughters’ own personal journey who in May, 2015 was diagnosed with a brain tumour, aged 23 years. However, the presenting symptoms began18 months earlier and were quite debilitating, leaving Abby in need of 24/7 care.
Surgery followed 6 weeks later (July, 2015). Although the surgeon couldn't guarantee her symptoms would improve, he needed to remove the tumour to, in his words "change the course of nature".
Abby has been making remarkable progress since. However, she has to travel to Queen Square, London, indefinitely, every 6 months as these types of tumours have a tendency to regrow and come back more aggressive.
This got me thinking about my own mortality and my desperate need to loose weight. Something I kept putting off as I had so much to loose. I was beaten before I'd started, pretty much like my desire to crochet a blanket...both felt like too big a mountain to climb. After what Abby had been through my avoidance felt pretty lame, so we came up with a way to motivate my own weight loss journey whilst raising money for a worthwhile charity.
The rules are quite simple, for every 1lb lost, I get to crochet a stripe of this amazing cosy stripe blanket created by the talented Lucy at Attic 24. It takes 92 stripes to complete the blanket, so I need to loose a total of 92lbs!
To date (February, 2018) I have lost 70lbs, so that means 70 stripes crocheted, leaving me a further 22lbs to go in order to complete the blanket. This is where your help comes in...
Each £1 donated via my just giving page will buy one raffle ticket for the draw, which with your help and support I am aiming to be in a position to draw in and around the beginning of summer 2017. You may buy as many raffle tickets as you wish.
£1 = one ticket, £10 = 10 tickets, etc.
All entry proceeds will go directly to the charity, so every lb lost will be a gain for this wonderful organisation that offers support and funds medical research to find a cure for brain cancer.
