Story
This is inspired by my mother, who is originally from Blyth, Northumberland and managed alongside my father to race the Great North Run before I was born. I suppose for most of my life I had it right at the back of my mind that one day I could do the same race. Only taking up running 4 years ago it took me until 2019 to do my first half marathon in Luton. Then I did 3 last year including the Virtual Great North Run. Well this year my goal will be to do 10 half marathons. That way even if the GNR is cancelled/ postponed I will have challenged myself throughout the year and hopefully that will deserve some donation to Blood Cancer UK.
Why Blood Cancer UK? My mother was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in July 2020, and due to the pandemic I couldn't even come home and visit whilst she was in hospital awaiting the diagnosis. The information she has been provided by charities like Blood Cancer UK, and the many webinars she has attended has allowed her to feel informed and supported. Thankfully the treatment for this type of leukaemia is working well for her and it does for many others with CML. But it's not perfect and other blood cancer treatments even less so. I would like to raise money for this charity that puts the money towards both researching treatments and supporting people living with blood cancer.
