Story
My Heroic Father battled bowel Cancer for 3.5 years, sadly passing on 21st March, 2019.
During this time his courage and determination saw him fight the following:-
Intense courses of chemotherapy and radiation, he developed chronic osteoporosis, sepsis three times, clots on his lungs, two 4 hour emergency operations, multiple blood transfusions as well as having to take a daily 'cocktail' of medication
Despite all of the above, his attitude remained resolute to the end, often citing the words 'its business as usual' or 'there are people far worse off than me'
Dad lived for his family, was a Consultant Marine Engineer and diy enthusiast as well as being the most courageous, caring and determined man and was always planning another 'project' - as you can see from his photos (taken within his last year when he was extremely ill)!
My fathers kindness , zest for life, 'iron will' , particularly to his family would somehow never stop him!
I can't thank all the wonderful Medical staff - The Oncology Team, Nurses, Doctors and Consultants enough for their incredible care, expertise and kindness at the various Hospitals and specialist units during Dads illness.
However, it was at St Michaels Hospice, Basingstoke that Dad spent his last five weeks. Here he felt safe and myself, sister and mother could visit him anytime, extending to Dads last 8 days, when we stayed day and night.
Dad, was given one of 10 beds for those requiring 'end of life'(Palliative care) and yet only 8 beds are normally available through lack of funding!
This sanctuary of care and love through its wonderful staff, including volunteers relies on Donations, receiving less than 20% from the north Hampshire clinical commissioning group - the remaining 3.1 million comes from kind donations
I want to help as many patients and their families that need Palliative care to have the opportunities my father had and my family were given at this truly inspiring place.
This is why I have set up this page and will continue to support the Hospice by running my own Health and fitness events for the local community through my company Dynamite Personal Fitness - I want anyone lucky enough to have their 'health' to embrace it by encouraging people to participate in exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Through the events and donating you can improve your life as well as helping others suffering from this vile and evil disease.
Please help, make a positive difference to so many others and even yourself - my father wanted to desperately continue living his life, four days before he passed away he said 'I wish I could have 10 more years, even 2 more years or just 2 more months'
There are no words to say how hard that was to hear but dad gave me so much love and motivation throughout my life and now I want to continue his legacy through this wonderful and 'giving' hospice.
