Story
On the 23rd of April I will be running the London marathon! I have chosen to raise money for Diabetes UK as this is a charity very close to my heart with my Mum being diabetic.
At just eleven years old after a few weeks of feeling unwell Mum was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This would be the start of a life changing journey. The road ahead was unclear but undoubtedly there were to be many challenges along the way.
A complete change in lifestyle from a young age meant having to have daily injections, numerous blood tests, finger pricks & hospital appointments, it was never easy for Mum but she took it all in her stride and faced the problems straight on.
At the age of twenty three Mum ended up in a life threatening diabetic coma for five days with ketoacidosis. This was a massive wake up call to how serious and dangerous being diabetic can be if not kept under control.
Since then Mum has learnt a lot about her condition and now has a much better understanding of how it works making day to day life that little bit easier.
From young all I’ve ever wanted to do was help Mum in any way I can. While I am able to I thought the London marathon would be a perfect challenge to take on and raise as much money as possible for Diabetes UK, an amazing charity who are determined to find a cure and raise awareness for a disease that affects millions worldwide.
I will be looking at getting a fundraising event set up over the coming months potentially a quiz night with a raffle and an auction. Dates to be confirmed!
Just under six months until race day. Training started this week, come April 23rd I’m hoping to give this a really good good shot.
Any donations would be massively appreciated. I’ll also be collecting donations for the raffle and auction so if anyone can help or knows of anyone that can help it would be very gratefully received.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, Roll on April 23rd!💙🧡
