Story
The date is Sunday 26th April 2009. The time has come. i'm about to take part in my first London Marathon. Training done, nutrition sorted, music sorted, kit ready...oh and the sun is out!! Its a scorcher.
4 hrs 23 mins 54 secs later i cross the line. "I'm never doing that again" were the first words from my mouth. I then collected my medal, collected my kit bag and then made my way in the direction of a portaloo. I then gave an interview to the BBC's Inside Sport, collapsed, and ended up in a St Johns Ambulance tent with two women massaging the cramp out of my thighs. I was in a bad way. I didn't walk for three days!! All that aside the experience of the London Marathon is immense. Every runner has their own reason for running, but i was touched when i saw pictures on peoples vests of loved ones that had been lost, or soildiers injured serving our country in the wars across the world completing the marathon on crutches/prosthetic legs. What they achieved that day was massive compared to what i did and i felt honoured to be a part of it.
The Ballot for the 2010 London Marathon opened the following morning and i felt compelled to enter again. So i applied via the ballot and unfortunately i wasn't accepted. Such was my desire to run the marathon again that i swiftly contacted my chosen charity, PHAB, who were delighted that i wanted to run again and they offered me a place. So here i am trying to raise as much money for PHAB (minimum £1500). Dwightyboy needs you!!
