Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Duncan Sides, 30, and I work at the UEA in Norwich and my aim for 2012 is to run a host of different running events building up to a Marathon in October along the Norfolk Coast. The events I'm currently going for are as follows but this may get bigger as the year progresses (Stowmarket has been added recently) and certainly will if I can raise more and more money:

29th January 2012 - Reedham Ten - 10 miles

18th March 2012 - Thetford Forest - Mud & Mayhem - 10km

25th March 2012 - Stowmarket Half Marathon

15th April 2012 - Bungay Half Marathon - 13.1 miles

27th May 2012 - Sheffield Half Marathon - 13.1 miles

13th October 2012 - Kelling Coastal Marathon - 26.2 miles

I'm hoping to raise some money towards Cancer Research UK which is a charity close to many of our hearts both recently and in the past. If anyone wants to join me for one or all of the events then get signed up.

29th Jan 2012 - First race has been completed in 1hr 30mins. My aim is to run a half marathon in this time if possible so I've got to find another 3.1 miles from somewhere - eek. Race Result 304th out of 406 - http://www.gydac.org.uk/sites/default/files/Reedham%20Ten%20Results_0.pdf

31st Jan 2012 - Stowmarket half marathon added to the list - all Matt Hassall's fault. Note to self - 'Just say no!'

18th March 2012 - Thetford 10k - Mud and Mayhem - didn't live up to the name - It wasn't very muddy at all! Matt H joined me for this one but I only saw him for the first 0.5km. He finished 5th, I finished 53rd - not very supportive if you ask me! My finish time was 54m which is a bit slower than I'd hoped - full results here http://www.tri247.com/results_11598.html

25th March 2012 - Spring has arrived too early - sunshine all the way for this one which made it hard work. Matt H again along for support and decided to run along side this time. Things went well until about 7 miles in then I was struggling - should've eaten more than a banana for breakfast! Got round in just over 2 hours so need to re-assess the target for Sheffield half. Result - 260th out of 316. Officially I was one place ahead of Matt - however I think he may have been holding a back a tad! http://www.stowmarketstriders.org.uk/12RaceResults/StowHalf2012Results.pdf

15th April 2012 - Bungay half marathon done. Ria along for moral support. Rain, sun, wind and hail - all four seasons! Training wasn't intensive prior to this race so struggled quite a bit but managed to break 2 hour mark this time at least. http://www.bungayblackdogrunningclub.co.uk/cms-assets/documents/58366-509828.fullprovtim12a.pdf

27th May 2012 - Sheffield Half Marathon. It was 30 degrees and I had a stinking cold - not ideal conditions to say the least. I loaded myself with Berocca and raisins and set off nonetheless. Over 2 hours later I dragged myslef over the finish line (2hr 14m 49s), behind most people (4074 out of 5700) but ahead of Steve Davis (5564)

13th October 2012 - It's over! 26.2 miles, 6 of which were across shingle, and I've done it. Really hard work but definitely worth it. Big thanks to Ria who popped up at various parts of the course to keep me going.
