On September 21, I will be running the Ring of Steall Skyrace in aid of orphanage charity Dnipro Kids.
The Ring of Steall Skyrace follows in the tradition of skyrunning, which consists of uncompromising mountain running, such as scrambling along mountain ridges with steep ascents, traverses and descents on technical and challenging terrain.
The race is set within the Mamores, which are an east-west series of majestic Munros (Scottish Mountains over 3,000ft) and in this route there are four that will be summited. Overall, the 18-mile race has a total ascent/descent of 8,202ft.
Dnipro Kids is a brilliant charity, set up by football fans back in 2005, which works hard to ensure orphans in Dnipro, Ukraine, get the best start in life possible.
Not only does the charity help provide the kids with basic necessities, such as warm clothes and improvements to accommodation, it aims to give them long-lasting memories - a childhood. Dnipro Kids takes the orphans on exciting spring and summer trips, as well as birthday outings, and all the kids get a birthday and Christmas present to unwrap each year. The charity also offers support the children as they head off to college and make the transition into adulthood.
