Story
All brought up on a mixed farm in Derbyshire this brother and sisters team want to raise awareness of the rising mental health issues within agriculture and farming. We have seen first hand the pressure on the farming community and the impact to the mental health of the people within this industry. The insecurities with its ever changing markets and weather , the solitude working patterns , loneliness and pressure on the whole family all have an impact. we want to help raise awareness to reduce the stigma on seeking help by supporting the FCN
Our challenge .....
The National Three Peaks Challenge. involves climbing the three highest peaks. of Scotland, England and Wales, often within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) we are doing this as a family mission to raise money for the FCN ( Farming Community Network)
The Farming Community Network is a charity that helps support the health and wellbeing of farmers and workers in agriculture. FCN is a national charity, who have over 400 volunteers across England and Wales and a free confidential helpline, which is also operated by volunteers from 7am-11pm every day of the year. A large proportion of the calls that come through our helpline, well over half, express concerns about mental wellbeing, stress or anxiety. Our volunteers are trained and understand farming. Most of the cases that our volunteers support, involve numerous and complicated layers of issues, some which take a period of time to work through and many, a combination of practical farm business concerns, animal disease, extreme weather and family relationship or personal wellbeing concerns.
