Given the current weather, what would make you stand outside in only your swim suit and flip flops?! For an intrepid team of staff from Dudley Ambulance Hub; a very good cause!
On Thursday 27th December, a total of 17 members of staff will swim the 21 miles between the UK and France. Fortunately, they won’t be taking to the English Channel, but staying in the relative warmth of Dudley Leisure Centre Swimming Pool.
Whilst responding to daily 999 emergencies, many Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians have been helped by the volunteers who operate on the CARE (Central Accident, Resuscitation & Emergency) Team at the scene of incidents. The Charity, which brings doctors, nurses and paramedics together, delivers enhanced critical care to seriously injured and unwell patients. Interventions include advanced pain relief, additional airway management, surgical interventions and pre-hospital ultrasound.
Dudley Leisure have been kind enough to support this event by providing personal lifeguard cover and free use of their swimming pool for the challenge to take place. It works out that each team member will need to complete approximately 80 lengths each; we are hoping that we’ll be able to complete the challenge in around three hours. Our aim is to raise £1000, but we’d love to smash that given what a worthwhile cause it is. Every penny helps towards keeping this extraordinary charity running and we thank you for any support you are able to give us.
