Care House is a multi-purpose community centre, designed to offer a range of projects to meet the needs of the local community. We envisage over 1500 people will use its facilities every week.
Care House is part of a national registered charity, Dawatul Islam UK & Eire. The constitutional aims of Da’watul Islam UK & Eire, under whose auspices Care House operates, are the promotion of the pristine and unblemished form of Islam, relief of poverty, advancement of education and working towards improving the social welfare of people.
The premises are owned freehold, having been secured through ‘repayable loans’ of £820,000 from illustrious members of the local community. The property is situated on the northern side of Bigland Street at the junction with Burwell Close, a short walk from Watney Street, Watney Market and the Shadwell Underground and Docklands Light Railway Station which is within 500 meters. Care House comprises of a total floor space of 2,953 square feet (274.34 m2) and also has ancillary land that can be developed to almost double its current footprint.
Primary projects delivered from Care House will include:
Dawah and the propagation of Islam
The primary and core function of Care House will be to stream and convey the true and pristine message of Islam to all of its beneficiaries and service users.
Expansion of Youth & Gang Culture Reduction Programme
This will be expansion of an existing intervention of Dawatul Islam that promotes considered awareness and better understanding of the dangers of gun crime, drugs and drug-related crime, gang culture and gang-related crime.
Young People & Women’s Health and well being promotion
Care house will provide interventions to reverse unhealthy lifestyles of young Muslims, who do not enjoy the same level of access to nutrition and dietary related education compared to their peers in other parts of the country, due to a lack of resources and funding.
The Care House Study Support Project is an intervention that will support literacy and numeracy skills, and raise levels of achievement of Muslim children by providing homework support and revision classes.
