Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are honoured to be raising money for Boxing Is Love in what is the club's first ever charity fundraising event.
Boxing Is Love is a global, non-profit organisation that uses the sport of boxing as a vehicle to enrich the lives of children around the world. Please watch this two-minute video to learn more about the fantastic work of this foundation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGV21tfNZgo
We are hoping to, at the very least, fund a shipping container ($2,500/£1,834) to help build Boxing Is Love's first gym in Liberia. In doing so, we would be playing our part in creating a culture of independence and courage amongst children. Indeed, this will not just be a boxing gym, but a safe space, a hub of innovation, a hostel, a foundation for a self-sustaining village, and most of all, a place of hope and opportunity. To find out more about Boxing Is Love's plans for this centre, please watch this one-minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC4anYA3DEQ
Therefore, current and former members of DUABC will be attempting to walk, run and/or cycle the distance from Maiden Castle (Durham) to Garmu (Liberia) - 3,334 miles - within just two weekends. Attempting this feat in the midst of a pandemic and our university studies makes this all the more difficult, given not only the challenge of the event itself, but also the hours of training we have to dedicate in order to succeed.
Dates: 20-21 February and 27-28 February 2021.*
*Some participants carried out their miles on separate dates - but still within two consecutive days - due to date clashes. (E.g. midweek rather than weekend, weekend of 13-14 February rather than 20-21 etc.)
