Story
A team from DTRE are taking part in the Duchenne Dash - a 300km ride from London to Paris in 24 hours!
The Dash is Duchenne UK’s annual signature cycling event and over the past 10 year has raised more than £5.5 million for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. DMD is a devastating muscle-wasting disease diagnosed in childhood.
On 12th May, John Adcock, Tom Homan and Steph Lindley, along with Kerri Hunter, will set off from Herne Hill, bravely (or naively!) embarking on the 300km journey to Paris. A brief 4 hrs respite will be provided by the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry, before pedalling on through the early hours of the morning to arrive in Paris (hopefully) within 24 hours. Team DTRE are by no means professional cyclists and have three months of gruelling training ahead of them to achieve what is hopefully a sufficient level of fitness to complete this 24 hr ride.
We are aiming to raise £16,000 – all of which will fund vital research and accelerate the development of treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Please support us and Duchenne UK, making every mile worthwhile. Please donate and together, we will end Duchenne!
Your donation will contribute to help fund the following:
£500 could help Duchenne UK provide 10 newly diagnosed families with a vital DMD Family Information Pack to support them after their child’s diagnosis
£1,000 can help a Duchenne UK host their annual Parent, Guardian and Information Day to deliver free-of-charge of support to DMD families all over the UK. Helping them to better understand DMD and their child’s rights in terms of care, treatment and education.
£2,000 could help pay for scientists to conduct life-changing DMD research.
£4,000 could help Duchenne UK to develop ground-breaking assistive technology devices that will restore what DMD steals from children – mobility. This could help them retain their mobility for longer, and with it their independence and dignity.
£5,000 could help pay towards a clinical trial, bringing hope to families living with DMD.
