Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Who are we?
Douglas, Sachin and Stefan. We all work for Cargill Ocean
Transportation, Singapore. The name is a play on our initials, but also coincidentlythe same as the weather condition measure for sea conditions (Douglas Sea State). Fortunately there should not be any adverse currents impacting our performance, but actual performance is without guarantee and in good faith!
What will we be doing?
On April 22nd 2017 we will be climbing Mount Fansipan. Situated in the Sapa region of North Vietnam and standing at 3,143m, Mount Fansipan is the highest mountain in Indochina and the last major peak on the eastern end of the Himalayan range.
We will complete the climb over 2 days, including climbing through the dark, in order to reach the summit at dawn.
We will send regular updates on our training and preparation, as well as updates from the event itself.
Why?
We will be climbing Mount Fansipan as part of the Sailor’s Society Asian Challenge, in aid of the Sailor’s Society.
Cargill Ocean Transportation is a major participant in the maritime sector, and fully recognize that without the hardworking crews on the vessel’s we charter, it would be impossible to run our business. For a sailor working thousands of miles away from his home country, pastoral support options are limited, but through its global network of chaplains situated in ports across the world the Sailor’s Society Chaplains provide basic services for sailors of all nationalities, ranks and faiths. This could be items we take for grants, such as phone cards to call home and wi-fi access, to assistance continuing maritime education, and financial assistance.
The Sailors Society also funds projects in the communities of many seafarers such as Philippines and Bangladesh, rebuilding homes and schools destroyed during natural disasters.
With your help, Sailor’s society would be opening two new networks in the Americas and the Philippines, creating a global network of support. For US$90,000, they can run the new centre in the Philippines for three years.
What we are asking from you?
Our aim is to raise in excess of USD 6,000 for the Sailors Society. We would be very grateful for any amount you could donate to this great cause.
Thank you
