Tom's Dry Canaluary

Dry Canaluary · 19 January 2020
Greetings,
Welcome to my Dry Canaluary. I have decided to walk the full 127 miles of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in an attempt to successfully fundraise for Leeds Cares Cancer Centre. Oh. And no alcohol in January just for added value. I will set off from Liverpool on Sunday 19th January 2020 and arrive in my hometown of Leeds on Wednesday 22nd January 2020. Stopping overnight in random industrial settlements on the way, in order to tend to my impending blisters and inevitably dwindling will to live.
The reason why I have chosen to do this is simple. Breast Cancer affected the person I love the most on this planet, and strangely not a Leeds United player, but my mother. Breast Cancer affected my mum both physically and mentally. I am forever thankful to the Leeds Cancer Centre at St James Hospital who saved my mum's life. I now want to contribute to continue the forever adapting movement against cancer. Basically, I want to make my mum proud by completing the gruelling 127 mile walk, and also prove that I am capable of abstinence whilst raising money for a cause so close to our hearts.
Leeds Cancer Centre provides cancer diagnosis and treatment to patients in Leeds and the Yorkshire region. It is one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and provides some of the most up-to-date treatment, care and support for people with cancer.
Your donation, however big or small, will make a real difference and go a long way in supporting people with cancer and their families. How your donation could help:
• £20 can pay for a mastectomy bra for a cancer patient after surgery.
• £35 pays for a night at the ‘Bexley Wing Hotel’ – providing much needed accommodation for families visiting their loved ones at Leeds Cancer Centre from right across Yorkshire.
•£200 pays for a wig for a patient, which can have a significant impact on their self-esteem while undergoing treatment.
Larger donations can pay for vital equipment on their wards, refurbishing a waiting area or fund a research post for a whole year.
Please donate even if it's the smallest amount possible. To support me. To support Leeds Cares Cancer Centre. To support my mum. To support anyone you know who has been affected by cancer. Let's make a difference.
