Story
On 22nd December 2014, I lost someone very important to me – my Father. He was a kind and caring man and family always came first. My father suffered his 1st heart attack at the age of 42 and then a further one 3 years later and although this took its toll on his health and strength, he still lived his life to the best of his ability and especially enjoyed spending time with his 2 granddaughters.
Current research done by the BHF in Wales show that in this month alone, 660 people will go to hospital suffering a heart attack.
But I am not just raising money in memory of my father but also for the future of my daughter who was born with congenital heart disease. At our 20 week scan it was noted that there appeared to be something wrong with our baby's heart and after further tests and scans she was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis and Aortic Regurgitation.
At present you would not notice that there is anything wrong, as she is a happy, active and energetic 5 year old but we know that at some point in the future she will have to undergo heart surgery.
There is not much that we can do to change this but by setting myself a challenge of running a marathon and helping to raise money to go towards the research that the British Heart Foundation does, then we know that my daughter, and the many others with heart conditions, are in safe hands.
‘Together we will improve the lives of babies born with heart defects, find the genes that cause inherited heart conditions and one day find a cure for heart failure and heart disease.’
