Provide solar power for a health center in Jantuakrom, enabling the storage of medicines and vaccines, and providing reliable light to conduct emergency procedures during the night
Janutuakrom is not connected to Ghana’s electricity grid, instead, local people have set up local diesel-powered farming machinery to provide electricity via a makeshift mini-grid. However diesel prices have rocketed recently, and the machinery breaks down so frequently that the operators of these machines are not making any profit, and are only able to provide power for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening
After visiting a few weeks ago, we realized the massive potential here for solar power. The community is accustomed to paying high prices for unreliable and infrequent access to electricity, in many cases, solar could pay back in less than 3 years.
Dream Renewables have decided to provide a solar PV system for the local community health center, enabling the storage of medicines and vaccines, and providing light for emergency treatment at night. The operator of the deasil mini-grid will receive maintenance training and be paid for quarterly maintenance of the system.
