Dream Renewables empower communities to create and maintain sustainable energy solutions that address their specific challenges
They do this by providing engineering and entrepreneurship education programmes for young adults in Ghana. This is followed by our alumni support programme, which offers commercial and technical mentoring, helping students turn their ideas into reality.
One of these ideas is to trial Pay As You Go Solar Irrigation systems in Dzita, a rural coastal community in Ghana.
Over 50% of those surveyed use manual irrigation methods to water their crops which is inefficient and time-consuming. By providing clean solar-powered irrigation, farms can increase yields and reduce time spent in the fields. This allows farmers to spend more time marketing their goods and achieving a higher price, or post-processing their goods and increasing their value!
Farmers pay a small amount each month eventually paying for the whole system. This money can then be used to buy more systems and therefore becomes a financially sustainable and scalable model.
Dream Renewables has partnered with SunCulture to make this project happen, SunCulture has years of experience implementing solar irrigation projects all over East Africa and their technical and implementation expertise will ensure this project is a success.
Each £1000 raised provides one farm with a solar-powered irrigation system which can last up to 20 years providing clean irrigation and clean power for phone charging. After three to five years farmers will have paid back 100% of the system cost, and another farmer can reap the rewards of clean irrigation.
